What if you desperately wanted to have a child, but your government and religion prohibited you from using the one medical treatment that could help? BEAUTIFUL SIN is the surprising story of three couples struggling with infertility in Costa Rica, who take their government before an international human rights court to demand the right to use in vitro fertilization, a fertility treatment in which doctors create embryos in the lab. The film's director and narrator follows the couples and their legal battle for a decade. The result is a compassionate and incisive journey through the politics of reproductive rights and the hardships of infertility. The film received a production award from Latino Public Broadcasting as well as a grant from Chicken & Egg Pictures, among others.
