With My Heart in Yambo

María Fernanda Restrepo

Ecuador, Human Rights Documentary, 2011
137 min, HDCam, Color
Spanish with English subtitles

On January 8, 1988, when María Fernanda Restrepo was 10 years old, her parents went on vacation and left her in the care of her brothers Santiago and Andres. That day, she was at a friends' party and they were supposed to pick her up; they never came. A year later, her family discovered that on that day, her brothers had been tortured and assassinated by the Ecuadorian police, without any reason. Their bodies were disposed of in the Yambo lake, never to be found. This documentary is a personal journey mixed with the memory of a whole country marked by this history. This film has reached audiences internationally, including at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the Hot Docs Film Festival.
