Toy Soldiers

José Yapur

Mexico/UK, Drama, 2012
14 min, HD, Black & White

One by one, perfectly lined toy soldiers are knocked down by a marble in a therapist's office. As a means to express his anger, introverted 11-year-old Michael is told to think of each soldier as a situation that bothers him. Bullied in school and misunderstood at home, he has a few to choose from. And though he used to find refuge in his powerful imagination, the tragedy of innocence is in its inevitable end.

World Premiere

Born in Mexico City, José Yapur went to film school in London and is currently based in Los Angeles. His thesis short film was one of the very few selected to be screened at the prestigious British Film Institute where it stood as one of the highlights of the event. Toy Soldiers is a semi-autobiographical short film that he also produced, wrote and edited.
