This documentary short explores the culture clash among two countries along their borders. pt.es takes a "slice of life" approach, as a documentary examining the small amount of land that connects Spain and Portugal. The film utilizes anecdotes from people on both sides of the border to illustrate how the two nationalities, which had been slowly integrating, are rapidly coming together in the modern age. pt.es recently screened in the Semana del Cine de Medina del Campo.

Pedro Sena NunesPedro Sena Nunes was born in Lisbon in 1968. He completed his degree in Cinema in 1992 at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema after attending the Lisbon Engineering Institute in 1989. Over the years, he has produced over 100 radio and TV publicity spots and currently works as Artistic Director at the Vo'Arte Association and coordinates projects with young emergent artists.

Three immigrant window cleaners risk their lives every day rappelling down some of Chicago's tallest sky-scrapers. Paraíso reveals the danger of their job and what they see on the way down. This short has been enjoying a whirlwind festival run, including Tribeca and True/False Film Festivals, prior to coming to Austin.

Nadav_KurtzNadav Kurtz was born in 1978 in Tel Aviv, Israel and lived in England and Switzerland before moving to the United States at the age of nine. He began his career as an award-winning commercial and film editor. Most recently, he co-edited Bolden, a not yet released feature film by Vilmos Zsigmund, and edited and co-produced Street Thief which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Rafael Egaña is going blind. With us, he goes through the images that his father, a passionate photographer, has collected over the past 50 years. Each image represents a particular memory, but what happens with them when losing sight? Do they disintegrate together with the visible world or do they become clearer when being unable to generate new ones? Memorias del viento screened in Official Competition at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.

Katherina_HarderKatherina Harder Sacre was born in Iquique in 1988. She graduated from the University of Chile with a degree in Film and Television and is the founder of the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Iquique (FICIIQQ). Recently, Katherina won the Fondo de Fomento Audiovisual 2012 award to attend a screenwriting workshop at the EICTV in Cuba.

This documentary was honored in its home country with an Honorary Mention from the Sociedad Mexicana de Autores de Fotografía at DOCSDF.

The Shipibo-Conibo people have lived in the Peruvian Amazon for over 4,000 years, passing on their knowledge of plants and sacred songs from one generation to the next. Esas voces que curan tells the story of a Shipibo shaman and her family, and of their struggle to keep their traditions alive while facing the challenges of the modern world. Esas voces que curan has screened in official selection at Festival de Cine de Lima, The Oaxaca International Independent Film and Video Festival, and the London Latin American Film Festival.

Lima, Peru native Delia Ackerman received her Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences at the University of Lima in 1986 and a Masters in Journalism from New York’s Columbia University. She has worked as a journalist for Caretas and América Televisión and has collaborated on projects with Time

Magazine and National Geographic. Her other films include Senor de Pachacamac (1993), The Medicine of Forgiveness (2001), Seeking the Light (2006) and The King of the Desert is Dying (2008).

Heather Greer is an award-winning filmmaker and multimedia artist based in New York. She has been an adjunct professor at the Interactive Telecommunications Programs at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for the past nine years. Her past works have included the documentary The Gentleman from Shanghai and The F Word for which she was the cinematographer and was an official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival.

A group of college students from the EICTV plan an art performance piece in which they will prohibit the entrance of tourists to a Havana square. The art performance is being performed to bring awareness of the injustices that Cubans go through when they are "blocked" from going to places where only foreigners are allowed. In this documentary, we see the meetings that they have to plan the art piece, the actual performance, and the afterthoughts. The students are from a film school and are planning on filming people's reactions. From beginning to end they all discuss together the purpose of the performance and its implications as a political work of art. Cláudia Alves and her work have been recognized by the Berlinale Talent Campus.

A Wild Idea

A Wild Idea is a documentary about the Yasuní-ITT Initiative, Ecuador's unprecedented proposal for fighting global climate change. In exchange for payments from the world community, the country will leave untouched its largest oil reserves. The film takes the viewer to the Ecuadorian Amazon, capturing the rain forest's stunning biodiversity. The film also focuses on the millions of barrels of oil lying beneath a place known as the ITT Block. A Wild Idea has been sharing its point of view with audiences world-wide, and recently won Best Short Film at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival.
