Melo Viana

Brazil, Experimental Narrative, 2009
16 min, DVCPro/35mm, Color
Various languages with English subtitles

The tariffs placed on the distribution of films in Latin America stifles much of the creativity and virtuosity of some of the most inventive and realistic cinema in the world. Aranceles, shot in single-sequence panning movement, offers a panoramic metaphor of this situation in Latin American cinema, from the setting of a prison where these films are "jailed."

Featuring Rita Vidaurri-Eden (legendary singer), David Rice (writer), Carmen Tafolla (writer-performer), Jesús de la Torre (educator), Patricia S. Castillo (Family violence prevention activist), and an Aztec inspired ceremony at our Lady of the Lake University with Prof. Oswald J. Nira. Sergio García Locatelli

Spain/Peru, Documentary, 2009
19 min, DVCAM, Color
Spanish with English subtitles

Seen through the eyes of an exile, the large, Latin American city of Lima, Peru provides a sense of nostalgia and yearning for director Sergio García Locatelli. Filming the city during a grey, misty winter, the historic heart of the city, in all its reconstruction and restructuring, shows the coexistence of two worlds: that of an aristocratic past and of the current inhabitants who emigrated in search of the "Lima dream." The film takes audiences on a panoramic tour of Lima and its outskirts - a place where poverty exists visibly within the margins of wealth.
